A famous painting by Ernie Barnes called The Sugar Shack. It features dozens of Black adults dancing away in two story club, as a band plays in the background. It appeared as part of the end credits in the iconic Black sitcom, Good Times.

Powder Box in River and Jade by Amber Cowan is a gorgeous light green sculpture of pressed glass of dozens of blooms and leaves arranged in a circular shape. a goblet style cup sits in the center and overflows with the flora. A huge cream and black tapestry with bold iconography reflecting the Hispanic culture of its creators. It was created as part of the MOATIMA collective, female artists responses to being blocked from artist spaces. An oil painting by Paul Ranson depicting an apple tree in the foreground. The silhouette of the tree is twisty and dark against the almost dusty colors of the mid and background.

My youngest picked the French Revolution for her European History AP project, and it tickles me a little.

It's exactly what you think it is. The comments are pretty great though. "I think 831 is focused more on brand building and has built a company rooted in consumerism and accessory, instead of genuinely rich romance storytelling." ding-ding-ding!
Also, Tammi is pretty great:
People are definitely interested in having physical books that look good, but these are not that. These are so bland, and IMO they look like a Reader's Digest condensed version of some classic like Oliver Twist. This is not what romance readers want, and you only have to look at the sales rankings on Amazon to see that. There's always some new publisher coming along who decides that they're going to do everything differently, and what they don't understand is that readers don't want you to do everything differently. They want you to do the same thing and make it feel a little bit different. I think getting people who don't understand the conventions of romance to write romance and putting covers on the books that tell you absolutely nothing about what's inside is one of the worst sales maneuvers I've ever seen in my life. And, again, I am backed up by the sales rankings. Go have a look at Lucy Score's book Story of My Life, which came out in March of this year, is still ranked number 492 in the entire Kindle store, and has over 49,000 reviews; compare it to Square Waves by Alexandra Romanoff which came out in June of this year, has already fallen to nearly 125,000 in the Kindle Store, and only has 171 reviews. No one is reading these 831 books.

All this talk of sandwiches, so I picked up some pan sobao (Puerto Rican sweet bread) this morning, and it is the stuff of my Studio Ghibli food dreams. 😋
Lookatit:

I’ve had this since my junior year of high school. My grandma came to stay with us that summer, and she redid my whole room in a jungle theme. I was so sure I was going to work with big cats as a zoologist. 😸
