Superman is the story of an immigrant who grew up in Kansas, landed a low-paying job as a reporter in Metropolis, and still had time for a hobby because urban housing was affordable.

Is not using your car’s turn signal a thing now? I always encounter this every day in #Toronto and it’s so bothersome.

Our hearts are full with the record turn-out of over 100 people for today’s #LittleManilaToronto tour, in partnership with Jane’s Walks Toronto.

How much do you think it costs to make a pair of Nike shoes in Asia?

Before you open this thread, take a guess. Settle on a number and then compare it to what you'll learn in this thread. 🧵

They seem to misunderstand the point made by us 100-millionistas: it isn’t that this target is some unlikely mass-immigration fantasy; it’s that it almost certainly will be reached using regular non-mass immigration and we’d better plan and build to take advantage of its benefits
Poilievre keeps trotting out the Century Initiative because 100M is a scary number.

But:
Growing from 41M today to 100M in 2100 is an annual growth rate of 1.18%

That's a substantially slower growth rate than the last 75 years in Canada: 1.45%

Reminding you all one more time that you don’t have to order from Amazon. Went looking for Njahi black beans from Kenya this week. Not a single local African grocery store had them. $40 for a 1.5 k bag on Amazon. $9 per 1 k bag from Chakula Tami in Toronto plus delivery.

I decided to start a #thread 🧵 of stories about legal residents and tourists being (illegally) arrested, detained and/or deported by the Trump regime. I'll only post stories from serious sources, as rumors and conspiracies are really not needed in this authoritarian moment.

QUESTION: You know I LOVE books on cities, urbanism & city-building. I even made a “Best 100 Books” list back in 2013 (needs updating) & started the #UrbanismBookClub hashtag. Here’s my question — what’s the ONE BOOK that MOST changed how you think about better cities? www.planetizen.com/node/66462
The 100 "Best" Books on City-Making Ever Written?
After looking over his extensive library of books on urbanism, Brent Toderian selects the 100 best books on city-making that he's collected and read over the years.

I appreciate the jam-packed schedule of sports & recreational activities in #Scarborough’s Pan Am Sports Centre. The TPASC-City-UofTSc partnership is benefitting the hood. At Wednesday 10:30 pm, there’s still a lot of athletes!

First-time to join a class at #Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre in #Scarborough, #Ontario. This is such a gem — a first-class facility with great programming and awesome community.

That time a North York councillor suggested that a city medal be given to anti-gay activist Anita Bryant (whose death was just announced) when she spoke at a local evangelical church in early 1978.

Her visit prompted protests against her views.

Men's tailoring is not the only area where such "pointless" details exist. For instance, have you ever wondered why trucker jackets (specifically what's known as the Type III) have these weird V-shaped seams running down the chest?

It was great to find this gender-neutral and #barrierfree washroom in #Scarborough. #UniversalDesign is for all. Every washroom can benefit from having tactile attention indicators on floors to help people with no or low vision navigate the space. #accessibility

My @torontostar-rss.bsky.social column: Doug Ford wants a Toronto that’s designed for cars, but his own housing policies have encouraged thousands of new condo units without parking spaces.

How are car-free residents supposed to get around in a car-centric city?

Matt Elliott: Doug Ford wants a Toronto designed for cars. His own housing plans reveal why that’s a mistake
Doug Ford wants to rip up bike lanes even as council is set to vote on housing developments that will offer only 6,000 parking spots for more than 17,000 residents.

#Scarborough doesn’t get a lot of cheer, but it really has some of the most enjoyable trails in #Toronto. The Ma Moosh Ka Win valley #trail at #UTSC features accessible pathways and balances #nature and #architecture.
