It apparently drew a lot from the excellent biography "Destiny of the Republic" by Candice Millard. I'll toss in a link for a talk she gave on the book at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library, too, for good measure!

I'm hoping the story and direction of things reignites my love of the setting. I've been playing Warcraft games since Orcs & Humans and just... have lost that spark of joy and wonder the franchise brought me. I would really would love that back! The escapism is sorely missed. 😥

I remember going to Walden Books and eagerly getting this, the novel, and the ensuing novels and WEG books for that trilogy. I loved them so, so much at the time. I tried a re-read about 15 years ago and couldn't finish Heir, let alone the ensuing two. I should have kept the memories untainted. 😢

I am excited and terrified of getting it. I just missed EU I as I was still on Civ, but started my Paradox love with EU2 and have spent... far, far, far too many hours of my life since embroiled in those games. 😅
