Designer & artist; passionate about wool, abstraction, cyanotype, Chicago history, pattern design. Always experimenting.
I created a monster by introducing my 12-year-old to Tom Lehrer this year. Suffice it to say the fandom still has legs.

It's not permanent, but if you append "-ai" to your search string you won't get the AI summary. The down side is if you forget, it's that much more of a jump scare when a bunch of guessing and gibberish appears.

Yes but in those cases, humans are driving and can make decisions. Many times in emergencies people step up to direct traffic and help untangle things. A driverless car that can’t be communicated with is a life-threatening obstacle & very different to a car with a driver who can follow directions.

In the kitchen with the corner sink, the smaller door would be the fold-out ironing board. Lots of kitchens still have the cabinets, even if the ironing boards are gone.

When the PM asks about her and a woman coworker says, “the one with thighs like tree trunks?” I wanted everyone involved fired. Like I wanted imaginary HR to get her ass.

I've never watched Ms. Doubtfire but I instantly knew this must be it because that is the most divorceable husband I've ever seen.

Congratulations, what great news!

What a joy to see a tile roof restored!

No, that was Frogmore Cottage, a former servants’ quarters that was falling to pieces and QE2 was legally obliged to repair. They got Meghan to pay for the renovations, then canceled their lease. Harry was always pointedly given shitty places to live, even before Meghan.

Our beloved aunt’s first husband was a demanding shit who threw tantrums if she didn’t peel his grapes for him. That’s my only real life grape-peeling exposure outside of haunted houses.

I mean, everybody doesn’t know all the Nazi symbols, but who does know them is tattoo artists. You can’t fool a tattoo artist into putting a Nazi symbol on you. If you get one it means you put in the effort to find a tattoo artist with a “yes Nazis” policy.

Given the little snoot my guess is shrew?

My small contribution is, every time it serves me an AI-generated ad for a fake product (ie “sweaters” with very fake sculptural embroidery), I report it as fraud. I can’t control what users do but the amount of AI fakery in paid ads is totally unacceptable.

We watched The Truman Show right after It’s A Wonderful Life and I was so struck by all the little nods and parallels between them. I’ve never seen TTS analyzed that way but it’s clearly intentional. Watching with a kid makes you pay attention in a totally different way.

I read one last week! It was so good I couldn't put it down, I laughed so much, I was really excited to see how the author was going to resolve what looked like an unresolvable conflict and then it just...ended in the middle of a scene. Sequel comes out in 2026. 😑

When you type your search, include -ai at the end of the string. It's become muscle memory for me now.

I just listened to the audio book and it’s wonderful! This and Swordcrossed are two of my favorite reads this year.

I literally just finished re-listening to the audio book yesterday. It's such a gorgeous work, I love it. This cover art is perfect!

Weird way to find out journalists still know the word "brazen" and what it means, I thought they all had collective amnesia about the concept.

I was given an MMR booster when I was pregnant. They didn't check for antibodies, they just went ahead since it was decades since my last booster and immunity can sometimes wane. There's no down side if you don't need it, and a lot of down side if you needed it and weren't aware.

Total side note, but digging holes at the beach is destructive and also kills a few people every year who die when their hole collapses on them. Holes left on the beach trap wildlife. It’s one of the dumbest things you can do at the beach.

Maybe people don’t remember because a parent handled it? Our schools have standard forms for the kid’s doctor to complete, and besides vaccines you have to periodically prove they’ve had a checkup, eye exam, dental care. IDK if you can skip a vaccine, but you can’t skip the forms.

This is confusing to me because my word processing programs have always automatically converted a double hyphen to an em dash. I would have to override if I didn’t want it. Are we just writing everything on phones now?
