Enjoyer of vibes-based attacks.
Surely it’s more entertaining this way though.

That’s an incredible view. PNW is great! I just finished my masters in Portland a few months ago.

One of those is easy to explain. The other is MLS discovery rights.

The ref has called softer fouls against Portland multiple times too…

Moreno needs to start leaving the right side of the field. Every good chance comes from him following the ball to create an overload on the left. He has no one to combine with on the right.

However, this isn't to say that I think he should play on the left more than on the right. I detailed his movement in the linked post, and I think that what I detail in it is more important and impactful than his dribbling ability on the right side of the field.
A week ago, I attended Portland Timbers vs. San Jose Earthquakes. I came into the game knowing pretty much nothing about how the Timbers play and I was pleasantly surprised with how often they tried to attack through combination play. Here’s a thread of some of my thoughts.

So as it turns out, Moreno seems to be a much better dribbler when he's in the left third of the field compared to the right, having a much higher success rate for take-ons as well as being dispossessed less, proportional to the number of passes he receives.

Santiago Moreno Dispossessions per Pass Received (DpPR):

DpPR in the Right Third: 0.053 (20/380)
DpPR in the Middle Third: 0.034 (6/176)
DpPR in the Left Third: 0.047 (4/86)

Santiago Moreno Take-Ons:

Take-On Success Rate in the Right Third: 31.5% (17/54)
Take-On Success Rate in the Middle Third: 27.3% (6/22)
Take-On Success Rate in the Left Third: 61.1% (11/18)
