I think I'm in that group. There's an odd contingent of folks that seem to think it's a "get with the times" thing. Honestly I think they have a lack of knowledge if they don't have ethical concerns.

I'm pretty sure Christianity indeed calls us to "violate common sense" 1 cor. And all that.

Book of common worship has a gathering prayer in that spot. Most of the time if I'm getting to write the call to worship (i.e. we aren't on a theme) I use one of the Psalms for that week and it ends up pretty adorationy.

Not at this church, I don't think I recall it at my previous call either, but I do feel like I remember it from childhood.
