Educated tech professional sharing my learnings with the industry in relation to T2 Diabetes.
I’ve been quiet as I’ve been bringing together data and evidence from all my findings and experiences with HCAs and GPs around #type2diabetes
December 13, 2024 at 8:37 AM
this, like so many good private services disappear into the ether leaving folk with #t2diabetes & for those who want to own their condition, without anywhere to turn to. 3/3
November 25, 2024 at 7:35 AM
more regular blood work, Hba1c, tests with drugs etc, the plug on the service has randomly been pulled after I signed up to a 12 month commitment. My question to the industry is how are people meant to educate themselves when all the good education sources are being removed 2/2

let's start with something I had happen to me this week. I've worked hard & (am fortunate) to be able to engage with a non NHS #diabetician. This private clinical service is designed to help patients who want to, have more control over their care pathway, access to 1/3

EDUCATION NOT MEDICATION #diabeticdad the things your healthcare professional may be telling you about #type2diabetes may be wrong, inaccurate or out of date. Do your own research, learn your own body & become your own doctor.

And in case you were wondering #diabeticdad

It was at this point I realised I was fighting a losing battle here. Trying to take control of my own personal healthcare was not in the interest of my doctor it seemed. So I took charge. More soon #diabeticdad

If my #bloodpressure low average was through weight loss let’s test it by temporalily removing the drugs. If my readings go up the drugs are indeed doing something. If they stay the same arguably the drugs could be removed. Sensible yes? Apparently not. My doctor appeared quite furious #diabeticdad
November 16, 2024 at 7:15 AM
Despite proving (with data) my #bloodpressure mean average over a 7 day period week in week out is 124/79 with a RHR of <60 doctor didn’t want to know. They go by a single test done in clinic. My data was made to feel ‘irrelevant’ or maybe that was just me. My argument was to now experiment 🧵

The threshold for hypertension is constantly being changed by the healthcare industry & your situation shouldn’t be arbitrarily judged based on being under or over a threshold limit #bloodpressure #diabeticdad but here I am being seemingly forced drugs I’m told id need to take forever.
November 16, 2024 at 7:11 AM
Good regular monitoring at home over long periods of time coupled with resting heart rate (RHR) & logging the results is key. Take three readings and log the mean average #bloodpressure #diabeticdad one reading at the surgery is not an ideal way of basing a blood pressure assumption

A good article to read concerning #bloodpressure pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...).
US guidelines say blood pressure of 120/80 mm Hg is not “normal”
pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
November 16, 2024 at 7:04 AM
I want to talk about #bloodpressure the ‘magic’ 128/80 isn’t always the ‘norm’ the range can be up to 135/90 but Doctors never say. When my BP came down to regularly 120
Something over 80 something I was still told it needed to be lower -‘here take these drugs’ #diabeticdad

In this weekends blast of tweets about handling your #type2diabetes I’ve got so much more info tips and tricks to help you learn more about the condition. #diabeticdad and stories about how I was ostracised by some clinical professionals for educating myself
November 15, 2024 at 5:45 PM
What I learnt through experimentation is my bodies health markers react well at my now new low weight but I’m being treated with the assumption I’ll gain the weight loss just because of statistics & not my individual focus #diabeticdad
November 15, 2024 at 9:35 AM
The same experience with a blood pressure medicine called Ramipril. Why not run an experiment after I’d lost two stone to see if the weight loss or the drug was having an impact on my now normal blood pressure - #GP advised no. Of course! #diabeticdad
November 15, 2024 at 9:34 AM
Despite explaining this to my #GP I was categorically told I would need to take the drug dose as intended regardless. That advice is clinically not accurate. #diabeticdad
November 15, 2024 at 9:32 AM
#metformin helps the bodies sensitivity of insulin - intended to be taken shortly before or after food. A by-product is long term use can cause kidney damage. (Within an acceptable risk tolerance). However I was only eating one meal a day and there’s zero need to take the drug on an empty stomach.
November 15, 2024 at 9:31 AM
The more educated I became, in particular around the drugs I was being given, the more my relationship with my #GP was challenged. An example was a 2000mg twice daily dose of #Metformin #NHS #diabeticdad
November 15, 2024 at 9:28 AM
I also felt whenever I questioned about drugs or dose or general advice I was trivialised, & made to feel like I was causing trouble & criticising the #NHS #diabeticdad
November 15, 2024 at 9:27 AM
My #GP didn’t appear to be too keen when I went to a private #diabetician which was independent and not driven by default #NHS clinical guidelines not always in the best interest of individual patient care.

#intermittentfasting along with exercise changed my life & accelerated weight loss. Do weight lifting. Muscle mass helps give the sugar somewhere to go rather than stay in your blood. #diabeticdad

the #NHS eatwell guide is fundamentally out of date. Especially when it comes to the five pieces of 'fruit or veg' a day, fruit is not always good fruit when you have an #insulin resistance problem www.nhs.uk/live-well/ea...
The Eatwell Guide
Read about the interactive Eatwell Guide, which shows how much of what we eat overall should come from each food group to achieve a healthy, balanced diet.
