I think they should just use a very robotic voice from like Kraftwerk or the old Cylon sounds from the original Battlestar Galactica. At least it would be a little fun, and clearly not fooling anyone.

IMHO killing him was a mistake, and it does ask too much of the fans, casual audiences and writers to simply pick up with the next one. Killing him is just one step too far and blows the illusion.
That said, continuity should only be kind of winked at, the past movies and stories can echo not follow
