Happy Halloween! If you need something thematic to listen to, all four episodes of Necessary Evil--my villain-protag comedy-fantasy podcast miniseries--are currently out!

For October, I decided to read some non-middle grade stuff for a change. *Really* enjoyed How to Survive a Fairy Bargain (the sequel to the Cinderella retelling I already enjoyed a ton) and I had to lie down after reading the graphic novel of Kindred.

How to Summon a Fairy Godmother is one of my favorite books I've read this year and the ebook is currently free so now is the perfect time to check it out!

I don't have a DVD player handy to watch The Mummy or The Mummy Returns but luckily, I have my movie novelizations of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns to scratch that itch for now. I like The Mummy and The Mummy Returns a normal amount.

Books for September! Been having a lot of fun with ARCS this year.

Finally got a chance to try this cool little escape room game I picked up at GenCon from @grandgamersguild.bsky.social

The item system is so clever and reminds me of classic point and click adventures. There was a point where I thought I was almost done and it was just the halfway mark!

Here are all my reads for August. I just know my younger self would have been obsessed with Medusa specifically. It would have been a good counterpoint to my Percy Jackson obsession because I was also an OG Zeus hater and monster sympathizer.

Helping my mom clean out the garage and I found a leaflet for one of the first "big" writing contests I won as a kid!

Hey, I'm Destiny! I'm a middle grade novelist as well as a writer for TTRPGs and audio dramas!

I'm also never talking about theme parks as much as I want or playing as many TTRPGs! I always want to be talking to/working with more cool and creative people so feel free to drop a message in my DMs!

Finally got a chance to read my copy of The Cunning Folk which @emilygreymoore.bsky.social kindly gifted me during GenCon. What a fun game! You play as a group of fae trying to get revenge on some offending mortal who totally has it coming.

This is where the word count of the first draft ended in case anyone is curious.

Incidentally, anyone who is in the overlap of the Venn Diagram of "theme park fan" and "princess ttrpg fan" should hit me up, lol.

And I'm not even halfway done. No idea why I thought I was going to be able to be concise in a TTRPG for the first time in my life.

My reads for July! Worked my way through some ARCs I was lucky enough to score and finally got around to reading Project Hail Mary because I wanted to get to it before the movie comes out. Also, borrowed Peril at Price Manor from a friend!

Ah!!! I'm up for an Ennie! Same category as last year, but this time for a Sweet Revenge--an adventure I was able to craft from the ground up! We worked really hard on this and it means so much to see it get recognized with a whole lot of other great games!

June is just about in the history books so here's everything I read. Pretty solid batch in general but No Purchase Necessary, We Could Be Magic, and Dad Rock Dragon Quest were especially awesome!

My May reads (though a few are leftovers from April). I really loved How to Summon a Fairy Godmother and The Experiment is one of my faves of the recent ARCs I've read. And Curlfriends was super cute.

Just finished No Purchase Necessary by @msmarianayagam.bsky.social and it was the most stress I've felt for a fictional character in a hot minute--which I fully mean as a compliment. The tension was so delicious and I loved all the cultural elements. My third 5-star read of the year!
May 13, 2025 at 10:11 PM
My second 5-star read of the year is How to Summon a Fairy Godmother by @thatlaurajmayo.bsky.social. It was just so readable and I loved all the focus on the fairies--especially Cecily, the most fun fairy godmother ever. Strong standout from my recent Cinderella kick. Can't wait for the sequel!

April Reads!
April 30, 2025 at 12:54 PM
Got home from some travel to find a very exciting package from @gracikim.bsky.social. I finally got around to The Last Fallen Star while I was traveling and I can't wait for Dreamslinger!

My reads for March! Onward to April.
March 31, 2025 at 12:51 PM
My reads for the month! Fun fact: I realized after I read it and logged in on Goodreads that I actually put Story Thieves on my To Read pile 15 years ago and I didn't get to it until this month. Better late than never!

My standout February read so far is Majestica by @tolcser.bsky.social. It's billed as magical Jurassic Park and while that energy is definitely there--especially at the start when you're waiting for The Shenanigans (tm) to start--there's a lot more heart and character growth than I expected.

My #zinequest project funded day one! Thanks to everyone who backed it and, if you want to check it out, you still have plenty of time!
