Your use of “ambush” is spot on. Sadly. I’m not happy with the terminology of humiliation (unless it’s specified attempted humiliation). Ambush is the perfect word.

My take is that Trump wants to appear like the “good guy” to TikTok enthusiasts. Remember how some voters revered Trump for signing their stimulus checks? It seems to me to be a variant of that ploy. He’d like to appear to save the day.

Great point. The list of surgeries that people may come to regret includes all kinds of cosmetic procedures, gastric bypass, tubal ligations, and so on.
