We got var because there was a clear need for change. I'm not really ok with just saying we were wrong to want better than what we had before.

I agree here, but am also struck by the difficulty of finding an alternative option that has a significantly less painful collection of inherent issues.

Do we just revert? Add 1-2 more on pitch refs and semi-auto offsides? Rewrite rules w more margin? Limit var to a challenge system?
