Really a great selection this year, feels bit more melow but I'm sure that the live performances will blow things out of the part. So far "T Amaré", "Mataora" & "Turista" are my standouts.

Benidorm Fest has become it's own thing in Spain, appart from the contest, there's a summer and christmas fest and some participants will be on the pride parade of madrid and the cabalgata de reyes.
Being part of Benidorm Fest's lineup is a huge boost to one's carrer.
The winner also wins 150 000€.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but knowing how the portuguese delegation works I fear they're giving the final decision to participate or not to the winner of the nf.

I can't recall which one, but Canada did participated in one of the esc spin-offs in the 80s or 90s, plus CBC has the same status as SBS so it wouldn't be a novelty to see them competing in the main event.

Most if not all of the winners of Festival da Canção since 2017 haven't been considered the "right" choice for esc, so they've been doing their own thing for a while and it has been working out most of the times. I doubt that not being obliged to go to ESC will change things much.
