This *from last week* by Charlie Warzel is really good. Don’t fall for the shooter’s trap. There’s nothing there in his life history, most likely, other than memes and nihilism. I would like to print this out and mail it to everyone who works at WSJ…

New York City came out in force today for the No Kings rally. It was nice to be part of an event that clearly drew a wide range of people — and was organized accordingly. The moral core of this country has not yet rotted. 🇺🇸

Obviously I’m grateful to the researchers but how on earth was this a “surprising” result? It really shows how the language mimicry hype has warped people’s minds in so many ways.

This was my favorite one. The cellphone ban during school hours *is* what the school is doing to help your mental health. It’s a *positive* intervention!

I’m delighted to share our first ever audio conversation for The Line of Beauty, reflecting on our symposium on the novel. We’re going to be offline today but I’m looking forward to hearing what people think.

Amusingly, I meant a different (and not-as-yet-written) book than this one, but my first academic monograph has just been published online by Oxford University Press – and will be available in hardcover on December 12. The book is a study of Aristotle's account of ethical knowledge.
