The art of compartmentalization in interviewing. Social discomfort is real, but as interviewers, we need to navigate it while staying true to our goals. Rapport matters, but so does objectivity.

Interviews aren’t great at predicting future behavior. This is a crucial reminder for User researchers—what users say they’ll do isn’t always what they actually do. Mental models exist today, but behavior is fluid.

Reframing the problem extends it—it doesn’t replace the original question. This hit home. Sometimes, we get so excited about uncovering deeper insights that we forget the original scope. Innovation isn’t always about redefining; it’s about expanding.
