It needs at least some institutions in place to protect it both from the "will of the people", on one side, and from turning into a full blown oligarchy on the other (what seems to be happening right now).

While I agree with most of your points, it seems to me that capitalism needs a minimal democratic apparatus, or veneer, to function. That is, while too much democracy will undoubtedly kill it, no democracy at all can break it as well.

Poirot, for instance, is probably more well written and developed than Holmes. Agatha Christie arguably can create better plots than Doyle. But, although I love him as well, the same magic just isn’t there. Poirot is character, Holmes is a whole archetype

By the way, I just really cringe when I see an YouTube video with an obviously AI-generated image in the thumbnail. It just screams “I have poor taste”. It just really tackiest most low-level thing one can do

I have decided I will not use any product that provides such services. I use notion a lot but will drop it. I will only continue using GitHub because there is really no other way currently, but other than that I’d rather to keep my life AI free

I do think that AI has its place, specially in fields like medicine, accessibility, search and research, image upscaling, etc. But I believe its use in content creation should be heavily regulated

It is more like a company that sells stock images and footage and now does not need to pay for the people that make the content they sell
February 18, 2024 at 3:21 PM
As such AI art and/or writing is simply a corporation extracting from the pool of human culture for a profit. There is no way to compare that, for instance, with a person that learns and refines his skill and then is employed by a company to produce content
