So yeah—if you think questioning your country is unpatriotic, maybe what you’re really feeling isn’t patriotism. It’s nationalism. And those two? They just don’t mix

The truth is: you can’t fix what you refuse to see. And you can’t love something if you’re not willing to make it better.

Patriotism is building the house stronger.

Nationalism is painting over the cracks and pretending they don’t exist.

Nationalism, on the other hand, is blind loyalty. It says “my country is the best, no matter what.” It doesn’t want to hear about the problems. It shuts down anyone who speaks out. It turns love of country into a weapon.

Patriotism is about wanting to make things more fair, more just, and more free for everyone who calls it home. Patriotism isn’t afraid of criticism. In fact, it demands it. That’s how we grow
