A female Black Bear on the ridge above us made for an exciting end to a morning hike in Colorado. We were looking for Green-tailed Towhees and didn't see any but this was a pretty good consolation prize.

Yesterday evening 4 different Cooper's Hawks crossed my path. This is also a juvenile looking for a late evening meal at a table and chair on one of the college campuses. I doubt he's on the meal plan.

Immature Cooper's Hawk with a late evening meal. As an accipiter, its broad rounded wings and long tail allow it to expertly hunt through trees and brush.
Cooper's are distinguishable by blueish-gray upperparts and a smaller, strongly hooked beak.
