Oh agreed. Sucks that the only way to sideload is to have a European apple account and be physically in the EU I’ll see what I can shake out once I am back home though. Surely something simple and flexible exists for art similar to proton for games.

Eh, fair enough. I’ll see if I can poke at some install instructions for clip studio when I get home. Worst case scenario I know clip studio paint does exist on iPad OS, but I also know it isn’t necessarily as compatible as Windows, or have some of the niceties of Linux. Also unsure of Sai on it.

And that's fair! I would at least try out Krita, see if that works for you, just in case Windows does give up the ghost

Unironically this video from @jameslee.bsky.social has a ton of good info for if you’re wanting to consider a switch: youtu.be/lm51xZHZI6g?...

I would say try out some software that works on linux like Krita on Windows if you’re wanting to try to make the switch.

For other software it might take some exploring but as a rule of thumb, if it is Free and Open Source it probably has both a Windows and Linux version.

Define compatible/simple. If you’re just talking about Wacom drivers those have been mainline in Linux for a hot minute. If alternatively you are talking about software… there might need to be some experimentation.
