The U.S. federal minimum wage in 1979 was $2.90, rising to $3.35 (1981-1989), then saw increases to $3.80 (1990), $4.25 (1991), $4.75 (1996), $5.15 (1997), and finally to $7.25 in 2009, where it has remained ever since, with significant drops in its real, inflation-adjusted value over the decades.
