Sunrise at Combestone Tor #dartmoor
March 27, 2025 at 9:17 AM
Dreamland. As I was crossing Wind Tor at dawn on Sunday, a bank of fog rolled up the valley. I sat and watched it unfold for a while, and slowly Bonehill rocks emerged from the gloom. A scene as old as time, and I was over the moon to be in right place at the right time, to capture it #dartmoor

Considering it is very early spring, we’ve been spoiled with our #Dartmoor sunrises lately - some of the best I’ve seen for a long while

A closer shot of the foggy pines outside Princetown, shot from Bellever Tor on Boxing Day. Despite being unable to get up on #dartmoor for the snow this week, it’s a reminder that we really have had some wonderful winter conditions so far this year

North Hessary Tor is not the most picturesque on #dartmoor but shot from Bellever Tor with the fog rolling it amongst the pines, it looks rather otherworldly

Alone in the woods. Having planned to make the most of the current foggy conditions, I headed to Soussons plantation Dartmoor in the hope of some shots of the pines in the mist. I got some good compositions of the trees, but then this absolute gem of a scene caught my eye 👀🍄‍🟫

The forecast was not promising for a stunning sunrise last Sunday, but I set out in the dark hopeful of something - I wasn’t expecting this! I used a location I knew well and dropped the aperture low, then stacked ND filters to keep some highlights in the sky. Hope you like it #dartmoor

A different take on autumn on the River Dart. We are spoiled for choice for river valleys on #dartmoor and I’ve always struggled to find a composition I like. So this year I got up close on the detail with this 90 second exposure of some autumn leaves clinging in whilst the Dart rages around them

Maid of the mist… with autumn on #Dartmoor now settled in, you have to make the most of the conditions. I felt a bit optimistic taking the camera with me as I headed out into heavy fog recently , but then this Dartmoor grey mare appeared from the gloom - so perfectly suited to her surroundings 🐴

Autumn at Holne Bridge #dartmoor I’ve tried the shot many times over the years but never been happy with the result. Last week I set out just before dawn on a murky morning and I think everything came out just right! If you love Dartmoor, my 2025 scenic calendar is now on sale - link in bio ⬆️
