Snk actually follows through with this in the new Garou with Vox being a student of an older character Grant who is dead from old age but also they're not bringing back characters because Kof has mutiple timelines KOF and FF are different so Geese is alive in one series and not in the other.

Some series just striaght up kill characters though. Kliff has never appeared in a guilty gear past the accent core series because he croaked from old age and Justice was killed and never reappeared as well. Funnily enough Dizzy just took one of her mom's move's for strive.
