My dad grew up in Howth in the 1950s. There was a gang of lads used to hang around at the harbour when they weren't employed, which was often. Back then everyone had The One Suit. Dark grey, a white shirt under it, a tie on special occasions, and if it was cold you'd put a jumper over the shirt. /

Just home from a surprise antifascist rap night at a bar in a small town near my place in western France, to see American anti-fascists taking to the streets.

Warms the heart.

Jimmy said today that between parenthood and adoption (he adopted families, we adopted him back), Pete was a member of seven different families.

Ours was one.

This is Pete with Vallie in Manly in 2012. It was his Facebook profile picture for thirteen years. /

My friend Pete died last week.

He was 67.

He was an extraordinary human being.

A thread.

I've a 17-hour flight coming up and I am thrilled that some day I'll be able to do it with my face 50cm behind some stranger's arse, for an apparent saving of zero actual space.

Email of the Day winner, July 24th.

I have never taken a Lufthansa flight in my life.

(I tried to once, but they cancelled both legs and I ended up on a LOT service via Warsaw instead.)

I know these delivery networks optimise their systems but it seems odd that the thing I ordered from Bordeaux (2 hours' drive from here) first went to Terrasson (3 hours away) and then to Le Mans (5 hours from Terrasson and 2.75 hours from me).

Dublin was amazing. You're in for a treat.
