The scale of money being spent is insane. The entire face of silicon valley will be changed when this is through. The tech industry won't look the same and the next "next big thing" isn't going to be something like this.

The scale of this one is vastly different than any of the failed ones mentioned by the OP. We're talking billions upon billions industry wide being dumped into this. When it doesn't pan out it's going to be the equivalent to the 2008 financial crash for the tech sector. It's going to devastate them.

Which probably isn't all that different than what it looked like 10-15 years ago. It's kind of amazing.

Kind of the shitty part of all this. Machine learning is very useful in many contexts but because they are pushing this nonsense so hard for a use case where it's not, the whole concept is being dragged through the mud and people aren't going to bother separating the good from the bad when it's over

They really are just doing the right wing myth of being drug dealers giving you the free hit to get you hooked. Eventually they'll have to monetize this enmasse if there is any hope of some returns for them. My guess is people just move on, this shit is only novel while it's free.

Yeah, Clinton never really was that popular. Won with only 43% of the vote in 92' in one of the only genuine 3 way races in recent US history. Couldn't crack 50% in 96' either.

Which tends to make them so powerful as to be basically unaccountable in most major cities. Threaten to not raise police funding year over year? Threaten consequences? It gets real "it'd be a shame if something happened to the mayors family" real quick. Literally what they did to DeBlasio in 2020.

Does the Epic game store even buy exclusivity anymore or all that often? That was like the one thing people got annoyed at them for. I can't think of the last time this happened or anyone cared.

I preface this by understanding that in 76' the democratic party was a very different party full of southern racists who go on to abandon democrats in 1980 and beyond but just look at that electoral map. It was my parents first election. It's not THAT long ago. Things change fast in a lifetime.

Misguided attempt to create FOMO by creating the illusion that Meta products numbers are going up? Except we all know it's bots, they literally just told us. So, how's this plan supposed to work? Kind of hinges on keeping that under wraps, not that it would have worked anyway.

I wouldn't say it's new. When I first started scrolling shorts last year they were 50% Joe Rogan, Shaprio and Peterson clips. Took me literal months of clicking not interested before it stopped. I do watch some news stuff on youtube though and have always had to fight youtube recommending me nazis.

Yeah, the internet really has eviscerated like 90% of the mono culture. Outside of a few outliers like Taylor Swift, everything has been carved out and sequestered into it's own little corner. Doesn't matter how big the corner gets, it rarely crosses into someone else's corner.

I do hate AI with a firey passion but my favorite type AI guff is stuff like this. Remember when AI images were just bizzaro nightmare jumbles? It was kind of neat for 5 minutes back then.

I haven't seen the numbers but I'm guessing Gen Z men swung this thing hard for Trump. They've spent 9 years bathed Trumpism and have been firmly Andrew tatified. For a huge swath this was their first election and they were excited and motivated to come out and vote for their god king.

We manage in Canada with campaigns between 36-50 days. 3 months is still agony nvm the multi-year never-ending US election.

It's crazy how far back Trump as a villain goes. A lot of movies in the 80's had evil business men as villains and a lot of those could be argued to be based on Trump because he was the loudest and most famous business guy. Until the Apprentice, most peoples opinion on Trump wasn't kind.

He wasn't wearing any for a while earlier this year and he looked...sickly. Like, really pale in a "are you alright?" kind of way. Trumps a vain egomaniac and I bet he saw that going around so now he slathers it on extra extra thick.

Yeah, he's sundowning. They slapped Biden with that old shit but the last few weeks Trumps been worse than Biden ever has been. I mean he literally just stared off into space for nearly 40 minutes at a rally in plain view, can't remember what city he's in and has a permanent slur now.

I think that is the most likely scenario myself but I never underestimate the cowardice of the Dems and Repubs can't really control the primary voters. It's why all repub candidates are freak shows who can't win general elections even in red states.
