For me, I was running a D&D campaign that just couldn't stay on topic or schedule, and I had a great story I wanted to tell. I started writing my first book, and realized I needed to set it up better, so it became the fourth book of the series, with a prequel trilogy.

I would love to find something with cloud saving and editor annotation features, even if just comments.

I use Scrivener for writing the bulk of the novel, but I also use Google Docs for the easy/built in commenting system with my editor (read, wife).

Scrivener has a nice layout for lots of notes around the edges

I also like WorldAnvil and Inkarnate for organization and creativity.

Sounds like a great premise, lot's of room to explore character arcs and unfold a mystery!
