I was a behavioral health director of a state prison system. I got to visit Norways prison system and spend some time with them. We learned a lot from them.

Correctional officers don't decide who goes to prison or for how long. Voters do that. Correctional officers take care of them when they're there. The best ones, the ones who treat inmates with kindness and respect, do more good for society than you'll ever do.

Yeah it's called vicarious trauma. COs have high rates of suicide, addiction, and other chronic diseases. Make sure you talk to someone through your health insurance or EAP before it gets worse, because it will.

More than self control, you need to actively take care of yourself. You spend each shift in a state of hypervigilance. That takes a toll on the healthiest person.

I've spent the last 30 years working with the homeless, prisoners, severely mentally ill folks. I'm pretty sure I've done a lot more to make this country better than you have.

They are, but it's certainly not true that the burden of payment has shifted to the 50% that are paying 2%. I don't think tax policy created the inequities we have now, it was regulatory capture, money in politics, and American belief in a meritocracy despite plenty of contrary evidence.

The top 5% of earners in the US pay 66% of all income taxes. The bottom 50% pay 2% of all taxes. The problem isn't tax policy, it's the distribution of wealth.

I've been in a lot of prisons. I can assure you they're not pleasant places. It costs a lot to take care of humans 24/7. They don't get access to any luxuries.
