NHS staff shifts are planned well in advance; contingency plans can be put in place. Yes, it takes a lot of work. And yes, strikes are intended to take place in order to have affect. Shifts are covered in order to ensure sufficient staff are there. I’ve helped sort agency staff cover during strikes.

Not a great system, plenty of knock on affects but never heard NHS staff against such actions. It’s not great for patients, absolutely accept that but if the politicians don’t listen to the experts, then they can’t possibly hope to resolve such issues like the flu epidemic and investment.

I’ve worked in the NHS and also in a university with medical students; I’ve always been in contact with staff to help work out student shifts, often cancelled to enable staff work in shifts to cover strikes. They always know in advance and get prepared.

Consultants can cover the roles by bringing additional consultants, not all residents doctors will participate in the strikes, agency doctors are brought in, senior nurses can step up, physician associates can assist in certain procedures.

My sister is a consultant, she will cover shifts as will her colleagues.The BMA provides dates in advance so that shift cover can be arranged.

If they don’t do it this way then politicians will get away with not addressing the issues which is dealing with the under investment in the NHS. Streeting was told earlier to speak to doctors by the end of November to address and prepare for the predicted flu epidemic. He did nothing.

Pause them? He does nothing but create tension, false expectations, and yet articles, media suggest we take a slow approach and debate whether or not he means what he says he does. Of course he does, he’s a despot, a warmonger and still we ask ‘what’s he on about?’ Will not end wars? No shit, ffs.

Very true. But I suppose the focus of media these days is to find something wrong that politicians are doing rather than promoting the good stuff. People want the negative stuff to justify their feelings of doom and gloom; mostly justified but would be great to hear about good things.

Plan for a future without the US. It’ll take time but the EU and others have been lazy for too long. Plan for non-US action, non-US infrastructure, non-US military alliances. And stop placating the US; grow some balls, figure it out and get to work.

..we desperately need human beings in charge, not automatons whose loyalty is to money, power and control. That is all I see in governments and I need to see more humanity. Otherwise, what’s the point? We might as well pull the plug and let our species circle the drain coz we’re fucked.

Don’t disagree. He needs to more informed and knowledgeable. However, I think what is more important than anything is that he has empathy. Hearing Starmer talking about watering down ECHR and human rights, how every right wing party wants to dehumanise non white people, what the US is doing…

This is the start. This is about seizing control of the world’s resources. Seen those futuristic films where a corporation owns the air you breathe, the water you drink? This is how it starts and we’re too concerned about celebs, fashion or what gadget to have, to notice our safety disappearing.
