For the first time I’ve modelled a TV series engine, Salty the Dockyard Diesel. Given how much my wife loves him there’s no way I wasn’t going to build him!

Salty was, of course, made using the Heljan BR Class 07. He came apart quite nicely, but masking up the windows was a pain to do. He’s the second engine I’ve given proper weathering and I mostly winged it, but I think the result works. He shares his original number but I gave him lettering to represent his owner - the Port of Tidmouth Authority. His name written on him is something I feel that an affectionate driver might’ve done, written in chalk but later painted on. Shunting some wagons Salty is my wife’s favourite so naturally her engine has to meet him.

Almost all of my current modelling work at the moment is carriage building. Two more of the Trottingham Vale’s carriages at different stages of construction…
Two carriages under construction. A Peco Bowsider is being painted while a Robex Ashbury is being prepared for painting. The Bowsider is painted in chocolate and cream, similar to the Great Western Railway carriages.

After my recent cartoon watching, I have come to this conclusion.
The ‘Know the Work Rules’ exploitable meme. In the top panel (APPROPRIATE) is Donkey Kong from the 1996 ‘Donkey Kong Country’ series. In the bottom panel (INAPPROPRIATE) is Sonic the Hedgehog from the 1999 series ‘Sonic Underground. Fittingly the last of the recently finished projects is one I bought a little over five years ago - a Mountaineer Models ‘Gowrie’ built on a Bachmann chassis. This one really stalled but I adore how she turned out.

As someone who had built a good number of Longleat locos over the years (having driven several) I had of course built a model of this engines replacement, or should I say it’s rebuilt form. The model of it doesn’t work but then it was barely used when I worked there…

Shapeways used to have a conversion kit for a Bachmann N Gauge 2-8-0, turning it into a narrow gauge loco. I took the opportunity to build a lookalike of a Severn Lamb Rio Grande, one that used to work at Longleat.
