(He/Him) Former Windows logo guy. I like messing around with video games, both playing them and reverse engineering them. Big fan of Metroid, Sonic, Blaster Master, Ys, many others.
I was at Walmart yesterday and some doofus put this carton of milk here for absolutely no reason

I wonder what my GOTY for this year will be...
Here's my past four GOTYs for reference (ignore the Sonic part of SxShadow Gens):

It's Crimson II. Available now in Japan, tomorrow elsewhere. (Japanese only regardless of region)

The first Crimson game's also on the eShop, so this is neat. Only one game left in the trilogy, but they got MSX releases too and there's still other XTALSOFT games that'll work.

Sorry for the long period of inactivity there, got signed out on my phone and it took me a while to get back in 😅

Anyway, I snuck a hard mode into A:DI a bit ago and I had only seen a few people catch on haha

This is the Panasonic P-01G, a flip phone released in Japan in 2014 and made for Docomo's FOMA 3G network. It supports Docomo's custom "Star" Java profile (and its predecessor, "DoJa") and, more importantly for me, is one of the few of those to also unofficially support sideloading at this time.

Hmm, I wonder what this is... 🤔

More pics soon!

Cat's out of the bag - Abandoned: Discovery Island is coming to MacOS in early 2025! An updated Android port will also be releasing later next year!
December 2, 2024 at 3:48 AM
Anyway, that about wraps up this updated tier list for now. Let me know if you want to see how some of the other spinoffs would rank on the list!

D rank will return
November 25, 2024 at 2:19 AM
Anyway, the next few mainlines I have left are Heroes and Superstars. Not looking forward to playing through Superstars since I refunded it last time, and dreading the Dark and Chaotix stories. Will add Shadow '05 later too, need a lot more playthroughs to rank it fairly but it's been fun so far.
November 25, 2024 at 2:19 AM
And now, the moment you're probably not waiting for - Shadow Generations is an easy S tier for me. Yeah, there's a bit of filler, but the level design is all-around fantastic. There isn't a single bad stage in it. At all. Short, but VERY sweet.
And not technically mainline either. Heck.
November 25, 2024 at 2:19 AM
Now for Sonic 4 Episode II. Yeah, I'm counting it separately. It's better than the first game in a lot of ways, and yet it's also got lower lows. Gee, I wonder why I'm feeling deja vu with that one ;)
Side note: '06 was moved to C because there's not enough of a quality gap between it and Forces imo
November 25, 2024 at 2:19 AM
I still haven't finished Heroes, but I have beaten Lost World, and... well, get ready for my spiciest take yet. As a Sonic game, I'll admit that Lost World sucks, but on its own merits? It's genuinely pretty fun, and provides a pretty good challenge too (especially pre-patch).
November 25, 2024 at 2:19 AM
Now that we're in 2024 and not 2022, it's time to see how my opinions have changed and what new games have come out! And for the former... not too much. I've softened up on SA2 and Forces a bit and bumped Frontiers down thanks to recency bias wearing off and Final Horizon. D tier's empty for now.
November 25, 2024 at 2:19 AM
Anyway, here's my current tier list. I haven't beaten Lost World or Sonic 4 Episode II nor have I completed Heroes or Shadow yet, so I want to do that first before I finalize this.
[That's where the Twitter posts end. Bluesky additions coming very soon]

I first played Sonic 4 long enough ago that the game was still using the Rush model on iOS and liked it. I've replayed both versions on PC more recently and didn't like it as much and still had fun with it, but it's definitely not B tier material.
[Quietly moved Unleashed upwards in this one]
November 24, 2024 at 6:31 PM
I knocked Sonic 1 down a tier there since I felt like the gap between it and CD was large enough, but then I remembered Sonic 4 existed. I don't think it really counts as mainline, but I'll include it anyway for posterity's sake (this is starting to become a pattern).
November 24, 2024 at 6:31 PM
Sonic Colors was a tough call for me, but I feel it's a high B tier. The level design might be blocky and the forced mission levels are a little irritating, but I had fun with the game as a whole and liked the exploration aspect and the unique focus on boost conservation.
November 24, 2024 at 6:31 PM
Realized I forgot CD... ugh. I may be a CD apologist and like the exploration-based levels, but it has the same issue as Sonic 2: high highs, low lows. Only this time, both the highs and lows are much lower. Might need to start re-evaluating my placement.
