Fascinating - I never clocked that attachments on emails, video on Zoom etc cost CO2.
But you missed mending off your list Alex. I’m always amazed how many people don’t mend what’s broken but instead throw it away and buy new.

Not necessarily … on Twitter I had 1000+ followers before I deleted my account. You can see for yourself how many I have now on Bluesky.

I’ve just read this, Steve, with tears in my eyes. Absolutely hats off to you and your colleagues. I can’t tell you how much I agree with everything said, and that you’re doing to help those in greatest need of help. Bravo!

Done (to @freddievanmierlomp.bsky.social )
Thank you for making it easy, and sorry Freddie, for it being a generic email, but I did read it through and completely agree. 50% of my company’s business is international, mainly with Europe and it’s become a complete nightmare.

I’d love to know what the tweet (can I say that here?!!) you quoted but that is now deleted said!

But such a shame the weather meant Watlington’s Christmas Market was cancelled today. So many lovely independent shops that we have here will miss out on valuable trade. (and really glad to see you on Bluesky now Freddie!)

Hear hear!

You heard something different to what I heard then Alex, because that’s precisely what I heard and to be honest, it made me both angry and upset.

… but he was so wrong with his cynicism about farming. Become more efficient. Build houses on the land. If it were so simple and we really wanted the results. Monoculture, no hedges, chemicals, concrete and bricks?

Those last two points show the same ignorance and contempt for farming that the current proposals have inadvertently also shown. They show what Oscar Wilde famously described a cynic: knowing the cost of everything but the value of nothing.

Or build houses on them? And turn the green and pleasant land that is the United Kingdom into a concrete jungle? Careful what you wish for because I’m not sure that’s what you want either.
November 26, 2024 at 6:23 PM
But make farms more efficient? You mean rip out hedges to make smaller fields larger and easier to use machinery on? Use intensive chemicals to enhance yields? What, environmentally, will be the consequence? Do you really want that?

… then later felt his professional success was solely down to hard work, not the enormous privilege his background and upbringing afforded him.

… but how do you do it? I’ve tried searching for people I followed or who followed me, but to be honest, I’m not sure I have the energy as so many haven’t yet made that switch. Wonder if the whole concept has run its course? Let’s see
