My view is different - if you take the cash you don't get to perform distance/cynicism afterwards imo. (And presumably no architect would admit to this position, ie doing work for a project they thought an inevitable failure).

Nah - the local shower as are unreconstructed as ever. Maybe worse, indeed, as they become more and more a rump organisation.

I'm not sure I see the difference - accepting a fee to supply design services is taking something seriously enough I think.

I went to Neom's show at Venice a couple of years ago and an embarrassing amount of famous/blue chip architects certainly took it seriously enough.
