I call on Governor Abbott to immediately withdraw any support for this decision and refuse to coordinate. There is no reason a President should send military troops into a sovereign state without their knowledge, consent, or cooperation.

This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.

Man, woman, or chimpanzee, every creature on the planet should have had a little crush on Jane Goodall. Insightful, pioneering, intellectually rigorous, funny—this human made the most of their time on earth, and then some. Heartbroken to hear the news she passed today, but grateful for her gifts.

US national parks will remain open if the government shuts down at midnight, as expected, according to an internal NPS memo. The move comes despite warnings that parks, which will be staffed with the minimum of employees if at all, are likely to be damaged, looted, and vandalized.
