Happy Holidays to you all! 🥰

Since 2014 I've made an annual holiday doodle. It started as a gag on my grandpa, who always judged cards based on price. So I made my own and put my logo where the barcode would be. 🤭 These are printed as postcards to be sent to friends and family. Here's yours!

Time has really been getting away from me these past few weeks, but I finally got my holiday decorations up last night! Just before getting our first real snow of the year, too. 🥰

Shadic the Hedgehog, a Sonic fan character, having fun running through Green Forest (one of my favorite levels from "Sonic Adventure 2"). She isn't as fast as Sonic, so needs some help from a vine to navigate the half pipe paths. A few jungle plants dot the environment, with a tree trunk to the left and mossy-green wood ground curving in fore- and background, with a vine bridge overhead in the distance. Mostly dark shades of greens and browns in the background. Shadic is silver with blue markings, pale tan muzzle and inner ears. Camera view is low and tilted at 45 degrees, looking up at her as she runs with a wide open happy grin, showing pointy little teeth. Clean lines and solid colors, a work-in-progress that will eventually be shaded.

This was a vehicle model that I created in my last few quarters of college for a futuristic racing game the class created together called Destruction Grand Prix (DGPX). I was the Vehicle Team Lead, and this was our one playable vehicle! The concept team created the design, and I modeled, textured, rigged, and programmed everything for use in UDK. Yellow futuristic combat vehicle with plenty of bare metal scratches and dirt showing wear and tear. Curved metal "arms" protect the sides and front tires. The driver is protected by a curved canopy of darkened glass. A round spinning turret sits above the canopy. A 3D still life model that I created in Autodesk Maya for a college course. This was the one and only time I used Maya, and the course was offered as an introduction for students who came from other art programs. I'm a 3ds Max girl, but wanted to at least give Maya a go for the experience! Each item in this render was an actual trinket that decorated my desk. A 3D rendered still life image featuring a glass bottle filled with different colored blue, turquoise, and clear beads. A blue rose pin rests against the bottle, and a beaded sun-catcher with blue and clear beads curves around the base. Brown curling decorative sticks surround the scene and blur as they get close to the camera, and feature a few blue beads as well. All items rest on a warm brown wooden surface.

Image from local news. I was JUST HERE a few days ago! Thankfully it wasn't so bad then. 😭 Both airports I was at are reducing flights by 10% tomorrow. TSA agents and air traffic controllers deserve so much love. IF you do have to fly, leave early, brings snacks, and be kind. 🫶

I made it to Texas and back home again to the US eastern coast! Kind of wild to see the sun rise in one region and set in another.

Celebrated a wedding with friends and had a wonderful time. Then spent an extra day to visit the TX Renn Fest.

Airports still stress me out, but all went well. ☺️

Bandicoot snuggles on my lap! Bandicoot is an adult male cat with a white face, paws, and tummy, and coppery-gray with black stripes everywhere else. He's curled up and fast asleep, with mixed pink and black paw pads peaking out. Crash relaxing (?) on a red arm chair. Crash is an adult male cat, with a white coat and orange patches. He's sorta curled up in a half stretch, totally relaxed and content to be a pretzel.

Profile pictures for Shadic the Hedgehog and Soko the Hedgehog, both Sonic the Hedgehog fan characters. Chest-up face views only, clean lines with color, no shading. Shadic (left) has a sweet expression and a little smile. Soko (right) looks less amused and more neutral, with a little bit of crossed arms showing. The side-by-side comparison also shows some of the shape differences I try to incorporate between them. For lack of better words, Shadic has a few sharper features, smaller eyes, and a slender build. Soko is overall more rounded with larger eyes that are often (but not always) lidded, and a tall but more muscled build.

First impressions of OCSN. I'm very wary of this "algorithm" they tout, and the app is new and quite buggy. But I really like the idea and the opportunity for character developing writing exercises.

These end-of-day summaries did have me cackling though. Shadic's doing alright but poor Soko... 😂

Pine Creek Gorge, also known as the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. A ribbon of water flows through a valley that fades into blue haze in the distance. Blue sky and white clouds rimmed with sunlight overhead of green forested hills that are tinged with yellow, orange, and red as the leaves begin to change for autumn. A few closer trees frame the image to the left and right, and there is a hint of a rainbow in the lower right.

How do you all feel about your old sketchbooks? Embarrased, precious, indifferent, inspired?

Based on my range of feelings, I'd say never lose them, even if you don't think you'll ever look back. Holding these books that I used to carry EVERYWHERE has been a pretty cool experience as an adult. c:
(Left) Partial concept for a "Sonic Riders" styled Shadic! I had eventually colored this digitally and made a 3D model of her Extreme Gear. Pretty sure I dubbed her board "Silver Bullet". 🤭 (Right) Sketched scene from Shadic's written story! From 2006. The "rage incident" that I keep alluding to? This would have been the start of that chapter. It's an Arwing! :D I did draw things that weren't Sonic related, lol, and was also a big Star Fox fan. I loved the design of the Arwings, and considering that this was sketched in 2005 I'm pretty proud of little me! c: (Left) A shaded sketch of Rain from 2007. This character is probably still a mystery to most! I'm updating him quite a bit, but was surprised to find that I actually have a lot of notes from his original design. One that I had forgotten but may now keep is that he had a larger number of thinner quills compared to my other hedgehog characters. (Right) Sketch of Shadic from 2006. This was eventually digitally colored and included her glowing eyes and Chaos abilities. Crash started helping with my trip down memory lane. These pages pre-date you, buddy. 😅 (Left) Sketches that would eventually go into Shadic's original reference sheet. This binder was for all my lose pages, since I would draw on printer paper and random scraps. (Right) This was probably my first "grown up" sketchbook, lol. I carried it everywhere and the whole thing is full. I never like starting new sketchbooks, so have always used the pages in reverse. This habit still sticks with me as I start sketching traditionally again!

I've recently rescued my childhood sketchbooks, and actually flipped through them today! I never thought I would want to keep them, but since starting to create for fun again this year I really, really wanted them back. 🥹 Thankfully they were tucked away in my old dresser. Here are some pics!

It had been colored digitally, probably in Paint Shop Pro. I remember using it as a wallpaper for a long time! XD (Right) This sketch from 2007 was a concept for a teenaged Eddie (Rain and Suni's son). Various Shadic sketches, no date. (Left) A storyboard from 2005 showing Sonic running up to and bouncing off a spring! I think this may have been the year my highschool realized that I was serious about wanting to get into media arts, so they stopped trying to get me to take extra math courses and let me do an online 3D modeling course for a year. :D (Right) Something sappy from my teenage years. XD Modern me liked seeing that I have always appeared to draw Soko tall and Shadic a bit small. It was never an official story plot back in the day, but has always been there. c:

New book day! Starting "A Discovery of Witches" by Deborah Harkness.

Not originally on my radar, but I picked this up at a little book shop back home awhile back. The owner highly recommended it, so I figured to give it a shot!
