Im not saying its easy to do a nice and fun game, I am just confused on why would they do all this research if in the end it doesn't work for them anyway

I mean... If making games takes a lot of time and the gaming market is ever changing, then why are these billion dollar industries doing tons of internal market research instead of just sticking to a specific genre and trying to do something that will be a good and fun experience for the gamers?
