Stage 4, aka metastatic, is when the cancer spreads from its original location to another. Not necessarily to another organ. So, I'm guessing it's lobe to lobe situation.

Anecdotally, I've heard that some cases of lung cancer are not painful. Yes, I do know what dying feels like.

If you're a fighter, wouldn't you do anything you could to have more time? It would be wonderful if our health insurance [industry] was not for profit, or if we had universal healthcare then this would not be an issue causing fights.

The cancer is limited to the lungs. The program at Northwestern has several pre-screening tests to verify that the cancer has not spread. Otherwise, the potential candidate would be disqualified.
