They moved there looking to maintain appropriate distance from all the southerners that just get in your face and talk endlessly right at you, loudly? :-)

Good point! Would be interesting to see if the same people who spearhead the electrification in India also (indirectly) impede it in the UK.

From the sidelines, the system seems to be geared towards endlessly appeasing NINBYs big and small, requiring years of planning and megahours of private-sector consultants for like, 5 miles of track electrification. With seemingly negative learning curve.

Theory: unlike the UK, India’s richest profit from actual economic activity, as opposed to parking money in land and charging endless rents everywhere?

Their subtext seems to be ‘you wanted this stupid HS2 thing you fools’, and not ‘we are sorry for not being that much better than the previous lot.’ 🤷♂️

More like the ingrained habit for dual-think, one for the appearances, one for 3 am kitchen talks. The problem is that this habit only yields cynicism and not much else.
Still won’t matter with 5..6 smaller countries, so 🤷♂️

Would implementing these mean we’d need to brew more beer overall? Would it?

For clarity, do you mean villas in Tuscany that belong to railway engineers and planners who are known to advocate for HS2 from the PoV of overall capacity benefits?

Multiple rail industry insiders seem to think that the HS2 (at least in its initial form) would free up significant capacity on other lines, the benefits of which would propagate beyond its immediate vicinity. Have you personally encountered such opinions, and if so, why do you think they're wrong?

I also watched the Fully Charged preview mentioning 50 kW DC and got confused. From reading the other replies to the above, it seems that the base model is AC-only, and statement 1 (50 kW DC support) and statement 2 (retail price < €/£20K) cannot be true at the same time.

There are global actors actively choosing not to pursue that option. Pretending the option is on the table while they exist in their current form is, I dunno, a bit counterproductive?
