Ich habe den Eindruck, dass es fast schon common sense ist, dass er, wenn er nur wollte, leicht wieder Kanzler werden könnte.

Telling people that we need to get more independent from the USA and therefore will have to accept an economical hit seems politically too risky and is certainly a very uncomfortable truth.

European politics are underestimating the strength of their cards. Europe is still an economy which is strong enough and big enough to really hurt the US economy in case of absence. The problem is, that Europe is not prepared by any means.

For sure, he dictates the game which is played currently but he will be gone in 3 years. There is a fair chance that he will lose the mid-terms and lose a lot of power then. He will not have 2 3rd term.

Was mich immer wieder aufs Neue erstaunt ist die Tatsache, dass Assad anfänglich offensichtlich Anderes im Sinn hatte. Nach den Jahren der Diktatur, das Land zu demokratisieren. Aber dann war im die Macht doch wichtiger und er machte eine Kehrtwendung mit fürchterlichen Folgen.
