An example case study would be cool. You can translate a sentence 100 ways even with a dictionary but you need the sentences around to narrow down what ought be said, sometimes to something outside a dictionary.

You can't look up the context/culture in a dictionary.

I think this speaks to translators not just needing to be excellent at understanding their source language but also be excellent writers in their target language.

Speaking as someone who mainly translates light novels (as opposed to other media that are constrained by space or character limits), I really value the cadence and tempo of a passage, so I try to preserve the same feeling I get when I read as when I write, but sometimes "dictionary-flipping"->
