I don't even believe there is such a thing as cancel culture 🤷‍♀️ I'm not criticising you for willingly choosing to not listen to him at all, you don't seem to have understood what I said at all. Sadly I fear this exchange has been rather pointless.

As for having a platform, I can write about whatever I want and find interesting and it's not dependent on your own personal moral and ethical framework. You make the assumption that I do not uplift smaller artists that need it also, when you simply don't know that to be the case.

Do you know anyone who has become racist from hearing Morrissey's inane thoughts, I ask? Or do you wish to just talk in pointless liberal abstracts (as if Morrissey and his fans have any real stake in our xenophobic society) and feel good about yourself for burning his records on the bonfire?

The negative reaction I've had from this article has either painted me wrongly as conservative (or middle aged white guy in your wording) or doing cancel culture ragebait. Neither is true. Such lazy thinking!

Your personal engagement with art does not alter this world beyond your own creation of it. It is self-absorbed and frankly virtue-signalling to think boycotting Morrissey means anything. Yet I'm judged for continuing to engage, still embracing music that has meant so much to me.

Because I think that Morrissey deciding to be a racist does not suddenly erase the significance of his work nor means he should be artistically unconsidered. Why would you give an artist so much agency over your own personal engagement with the art? Total fool's errand.
