I've managed to get VS Code to pass the Spectrum files to ZEsarUX. I had the ZENG online server enabled (Main Menu->Network->ZENG Online Server menu, Enable server). Once that was disabled, VS Code successfully passed the Spectrum files to ZEsarUX, with DeZog as the debugger.

I've managed to get most things working now, converting the file format to SLD for DeZog, the only thing I'm still struggling with is launching ZEsarUX from DeZog instead of using the DeZog simulator.
