My shots from Digital Circus Ep 5! So much fun getting to animate more of the DC characters. Each one has their own little quirks/challenges to figure out

All of that culminating in this last bit. Not just contrasting his acting from earlier, but the craziness that's happening off screen.

Also, great secondary action of getting out a cigarette and lighting it. It's weaved into his primary acting so nicely.

Texture timing and rhythm are awesome. He communicates so much with his hands, especially at the end when he's interrupted.

I'd say he's living in this pose for so long, but he's barely living haha. And that adds to the gag. Towards the end of the shot he kind of wakes up from this frozen trance he's in

That bird like gesture, where he turns his head but keeps his eye on her is so funny

I love Arsenic and Old Lace, It's got some of my fav Cary Grant acting (everyone in the movie is super fun to watch). I think because it's adapted from the stage play, the acting is way more exaggerated. Thread of some clips:

For these shots at the end, because they were a lot subtler ( and I have an easier time figuring things out in the graph editor) I animated these splined first. Then I made an override layer with the stepped interpolation that I wanted on 2's 3's and 4's...

Here's a progression of this shot; Blocking, anim pass, then polish. Mud is super fun to animate

Great take ref!

When I started, we were still working on the models/rigs. I guess having the face helps me create more interesting body anim as well

Main run of shots. There was A LOT of pulling back animation wise. I have a tendency to over polish, despite telling the animation team to stay in a limited style. I'll practice what I preach next time😅

After this test, since parenting in blender is a little tricky, our rigger @bnbaku.bsky.social made a prop specific control. You could switch it's space and parent controls to it, all within the rig.

As a lead I did some tests to help develop our rig/style. We had a cool switch that woould shift different parts of the face to look better in profile. Lot of fun to play with and get cool 2D cutout shapes.

Contrast in color and shading, coloring Luffy in shadow so he stands out.

You can really see the leads and follows when it's slowed down. I think this bit was animated by Frank Thomas
