I'm working on his player comment for the 2026 Baseball Prospectus Annual
Fun—Funderburk was a fun lefty reliever prospect who put up lights-out numbers in a small sample in 2023, but couldn’t replicate it in 2024, in part due to an oblique strain landing him on the 60-day IL. Under—He performed under expectations in the first half of the 2025 season, getting optioned and recalled four times, and surrendering 14 runs in 17 innings through the end of July. Burking—Burking means suppressing or extinguishing quietly; stifling. That’s exactly what he did over the final two months of the year, giving up X runs over his final XX innings, even though he still gave up XX hits and XX walks, so it’s not like he found an “out” pitch somewhere. Still, he’s a lefty and he’s available, so he’ll have every opportunity to stay on the Minneapolis side of the river all year.

Inspired by @ruthkapelus.bsky.social and 200 hours of Hades 2, I made nerdy Olympus 6-layer dip. 1 ingredient for each Olympian explained in alt text.

Top to bottom:
