Retired Army Sgt. Brian Wofford spoke to me this morning at the Oklahoma City #NoKings protest. Didn’t expect him to be carrying his DD214 so I asked some warmup questions like when he got out and whether his injury was service-related.

He paused while describing the car bomb in Iraq to say this:

Hey weather people: I know they probably have the gain turned up on the radar, but what makes this return look…frothy? #okwx

Just noticed an additional two Skyraider II aircraft, callsigns "ZORRO," doing training ops over Oklahoma. This is now six trainers I've seen that appear to be in use by the 137th Special Operations Wing at Will Rogers ANG in Oklahoma City.

First two were HOBO 61 & 71

The bottom line – I loved photography. It put the fun:work ratio off the charts (toward fun).

The Oklahoma Press Association even gave me an award for this one. Photo of the month, I think.

There were quite a few fires actually
August 31, 2025 at 12:49 AM
Most of the news photos were of fires…

There was some hard news photography, too.

Here’s a sinkhole.

I spent a lot of time lying on the ground to get an unexpected angle or interesting framing.

Like when I covered an RC airplane fly-in.

Or this photo, taken moments before the gate is opened?

For me, feature shots were always about capturing a feeling, or giving our readers something to think about.

Consider this photo from the high school’s all-alumni reunion. Does it make you think or feel anything?

I never really learned how a camera works, so I sometimes lucked into shots like this where national guard soldiers returned from a 9-month deployment in Afghanistan. They marched into the hangar for the reunion.

My first newspaper job was in Elk City, Oklahoma. Along with writing most of the news, I also took most of the daily paper’s lead photos.

Here’s some I think are cool. Cutlines in alt text:

The most recent videos comment almost exclusively on white vs. Hispanic race relations.

If you look at the channel's post history, the nonsensically named "h3gqpw3x" previously featured a different guy speaking in Russian about the RUS-UKR war, plus some Israel/Iran stuff.

Cool photo alert: Oklahoma Army National Guardsmen (1st Battalion, 244th Aviation Regiment) partnered with Oklahoma Task Force 1 and members of the USAF 9th Air Support Operations Squadron to conduct helocast training at Camp Gruber.
Camp Gruber is near Muskogee, Okla.
