Had a fabulous night at Dutch National Opera’s Maid of Orleans. I loved it. And I also loved Tcherniakov’s framing, culminating in a very moving love duet, with Lionel helping Joan back into her own clothes, i.e. loving her for who she is. A triumph for all involved, and particularly for Stikhina. ❤️

Instead of evensong, I got Fauré’s requiem for Remembrance Sunday at King’s today. My second church service ever. I admit that the whole ritual still freaks me out, but it’s a very beautiful place, the seats are surprisingly comfort (and big), and there was some lovely singing. #ChurchMusic

Instead of evensong, I got Fauré’s requiem for Remembrance Sunday at King’s today. My second church service ever. I admit that the whole ritual still freaks me out, but it’s a very beautiful place, the seats are surprisingly comfort (and big), and there was some lovely singing. #ChurchMusic

Ik dacht dat m’n concert om 20.00 begon. Nog even op m’n kaartje gekeken (zie pic): 19.15. Dus toch maar snel naar de zaal. Is de deur nog dicht.
Zegt de jongedame die er staat met een ondertoon van ongeloof: “Dat is natuurlijk de tijd dat de deur opengaat, meneer.” 🤷♂️ Biertje!

Note to self: always check your ticket before a concert. (Tonight’s concert is in TivoliVredenburg, but in the much smaller Hertz auditorium instead of on the main stage. Kinda nice. Means I’ll be that much closer to the action.) #LiveMusic

I’m off to Utrecht’s wonderful #TivoliVredenburg concert hall tonight, where #TheNetherlandsBachSociety will perform their annual All Souls programme, led by #LionelMeunier no less. Looks like an ace programme. Can’t wait!
