Yes, these legendary composers are finally getting the recognition they deserve! They are now on equal footing because they have the same musical production resources as film music, which means that no one can now deny their great talent! And we game music fans are finally understood 😌

... Today, I think people find 8-bit sounds very charming and just a different color compared to Jarre's synthesizers.

The sound capabilities of the NES, for example, were considered cheap because the synthesizers of the time used by Jarre, for example, offered more “sophisticated” sounds (with analog hardware that was 10 times more expensive...)

The melodies in Gradius are exceptional, that's for sure ;) I think I read somewhere that it was the music in Gradius (among others) that inspired Koshiro to compose game music. I really like shmups, but I've always found the original Gradius far too frustrating and difficult for me 😅

On the other hand, you had to pay close attention to the melodic-harmonic aspect, which was very rich in the 8/16 bit period.

I completely agree. And the Japanese were already very interested in game music in the 80s. In Europe, I remember that the professional musicians of the time didn't really take it seriously because of the very synthetic sounds.

This post has made me want to listen to the first Symphony Ys album again! I looked at the date, it came out in 1988 🤯 Japan really was in the future in the 80s.

The original remix from which the orchestral tracks are taken:

Behind every arrangement, some layers stay in the shadows. Here's the orchestral part from my #shinobi remix. It could almost be the start of a whole new version.
