I didn't actually read LotR until I was 25, too ...and hated it! (It took until I re-read it at 32 to change my mind.)
For Last Unicorn, I teach that in my fantasy fiction class .... and my students, amazingly, were NOT down with Molly Grue. "She made her choices!" so much for lit--> empathy, lol.

I did like AFPP, but it's also written by a 20-year-old (and heavily edited by Marshall Best over at Viking). Lot of promise, but that's mostly it.

that seems so typical about a certain kind of teaching philosophy. They clearly have no idea how many of their students are actually using GenAI. 2/2

Ha. That's like when Thoreau said that he had a library of 800 volumes, 700 of which he wrote himself (from some returns on his first book).

True ... but I wonder if that's because Protestantism is so much harder to pinpoint than Catholicism is.
