Meanwhile, because not enough containers make their way back to China, freight forwarders actually need to buy new containers (because the old ones get stuck in Russia), so the price of it also increases! (6/7)

The container situation remains unresolved. The situation has gotten so bad that Russian Railways banned more containers from going to two terminals near Moscow, in Selyatino and Elektrougli. (5/7)

Side note: Russia seems to have (somewhat effectively) provided a financial impetus to transport containers in those empty wagons into Russia, removing a lot of them from the border. Anyway… (4/7)

Similarly, Russia exports a lot of raw materials (coal) to China, so wagons carrying those products are often standing idle at the border. No one wants to take them back empty because there is no financial incentive to do so. (3/7)

For those unfamiliar with Russia's rail problems (there are many), one side effect of completely restructuring trade towards China is that Russia has a lot of containers coming into the country. It doesn’t export nearly as many consumer goods as China, so the containers get stuck in Russia. (2/7)

Sure! I write mainly about Europe and Asia - Europe traffic. The sector is struggling to compete with the road sector, so there's lots of political battles going on all the time. It's a really interesting sector in that sense
