One of the best local sports journalists in the country - John Murphy, aka the Prep Dog, aka berdooman - has broken on through to the other side.

Please remember him kindly. He was a good dude, had impeccable style and his very own taste in music.

My beat includes two mid-major D1 🏀 programs & they collided for the last time as non-conference opponents on Tuesday night.

Last year, UC Riverside won by 1. This year, CBU dominated in a rout.

Ended up with a centerpiece today that could divide city! 😬

And an announcement this morning with a reel on Instagram featuring popular local social media celebrity "Mark from Riverside" and Riverside Pro Soccer's Greg Scott.

I spoke to Scott 2 weeks ago, but it was off the record.

Major hurdles still to be cleared but this is first sign this is serious.

Reliable sources are confirming that the new stadium proposal in Riverside, Calif. - my city - is indeed associated with an effort to bring in a USL-1 side.

I could be getting a text from the potential PTO today.

Currently writing a reaction piece from soccer people around the city.

There's a John Motta Trophy now? I don't remember this coming up at either USASA or U.S. Soccer meetings, so it must be an internal NPSL thing? Does it include a sweaty handshake and a free drink?

Picked these up alongside a 7-5 victory today & finished @inlandfc.bsky.social's Spring Season with a 2.5 GAA across 10 matches.

River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo liked what he saw from his team, minus a goal.

"What I saw from our team was a clear superiority at many times in the game. Our position was good. The mindset was good. The team was energetic. We imposed our will but we didn’t get a goal."

Monterrey manager Domenec Torrent was not very diplomatic afterward.

"Everybody knows who River is. We were facing Argentinians. We know what was coming. We knew what was coming. We would make four passes, but by the fifth we knew the foul was coming."

River Plate's Franco Mastantuono meets the media after the 0-0 draw.

"It was quite an even game. (Monterrey) is one of the strongest teams in the group. The moment was fun but we ended in a draw."
