Posting this Red Trillium even tho’ it’s not in my garden. Taken during a plein air painting session just outside Aylmer Ontario.

Red Trillium is a spring ephemeral plant whose life-cycle is synchronized with that of the forests in which it lives.

This is the start of 'My Garden' posts for the past summer. It was a long cold spring which I hope translates to a long warm fall.

April 28th 2025: First tulips to flower - I plan to plant more tulips this year.

I hope to see other gardeners' 2025 garden pics.

It’s rare that an animal retains its beauty in death.

Not sure of the cause - not window strike or bird hawk.

Not likely bird flu - no other dead birds found all summer.

Perhaps Mourning Doves (Zenaida macroura) are beautiful even in old age and it simply succumbed to being old.

I repaired an interior wall using flat rocks.

That offered a chance to try D.S. watercolour grounds on a bare rock surface and when dry paint the grounds with watercolour black.

When the watercolour dried I sealed it with Dorland wax.

Worked IMO. Up next some good sized flat rock paintings :-)

An early drawing my hand as suggested by Betty Edwards' book 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain'

The book focuses on, not the perception of the objects to be drawn, but instead on: edges, spaces, relationships, lights and shadows and of the whole (gestalt) - combing all into the composition.

Argelès-sur-Mer, located in the Pyrénées-Orientales region of southern France, offers breathtaking views of the Pyrenees (Albères massif,) mountains from its coastal location on the Mediterranean Sea.

My watercolour interpretation of a winter sunset view of the Pyrénées-Orientales.

Another art class study of an 'Angel's Trumpet' which I first saw on the porch of a B&B while visiting Québec.

I'm drawn to any flower or bush that produces fragrant flowers like 'Angel's Trumpet'.

Such a beauty and fragrant yet, as I later learned, highly toxic.

A quick shot of latest watercolour - ‘March Mist’ - I think it’s done. I’ll give it a day or two to make sure and then off to framer.

Watercolour on Mineral Paper: 'Lesser Yellowlegs' - is a medium-sized shorebird. It is known for its slender build, bright yellow legs, and straight, needle-like black bill.

From credit side of my personal account:

At 17, I paid for ground school and flight instruction from my part-time job at the A&P grocery store.

When I bragged to my dad that I had soled at 16 hours he said, that when he joined the RCAF during WW II you were expected to solo within 8 to 10 hours.

Granddaughter aged of 51/2 says it is important to believe Unicorns are real. I agree; to eventually find what is 'great and good' you need to begin with Unicorns and the like to start your journey.

So I created a real one for her - granted it's one dimensional and inanimate but it's real ...

Watercolour: Snow on Boughs - fits in with what the north-westerlies coming off Lake Huron bring in the way of heavy snow squalls .

I culled a small black walnut to avoid overcrowding of other trees on the property and gave the wood to a friend Mike.

Mike makes wood toys - actually they are works of art.

Anyhow, he showed up at my door with this gift that he made from that same black walnut.

Watercolour: Vase of Red Campions

This lowland wildflower is found throughout Britain and parts of Ireland. It is also common in some northern and central European countries but much less so in southern
Europe.
