a 24-year-old Vietnamese guy.
Classical music, art, books, films enjoyer.
This (series of) painting has got to have one of the most diverse fandom I have ever seen, at least in the history of art.

Like, if you happen to be obsessed with it or its variants, then you have something in common with, at least 10 historical figures.

Kinda curious if Shostakovich and Ravel had ever met each other. Maybe they haven't, but I suppose they have at least heard of each other? Shostakovich was famous at around of 1920s-1930s, the same time Ravel was at his peak.

Idk just thought would be amazing to see some interactions between them.

A personal favorite, though I think Ozawa conducts Bartók is amazing generally.

And that ending is incredible, like, what.

This part from the third movement is such a banger.

Happy 84th birthday to a legendary pianist.

A classic one.

Sviatoslav Richter, Moscow, 1935.
Happy birthday to the legendary pianist, who was born on this day (March 20th) 110 years ago.

Watching these 2 films consecutively is a unique exeperience.

BlueSky finally allows longer video, and I have to say, this Prokofiev 8 finale performance in Cliburn 2022 was incredible.

life when you are a Maurice Ravel listener

I also love Ravel's Piano Concerto from this disc though it is not Ravel-only. Fortunately Rachmaninoff is another favorite composer of mine as well.

this masterpiece

Just took a subway and got genuinely excited to it, I guess I'm a boomer now.

You know it's gonna be a good movie when any of these shows up.

Bad Genius, the original 2017 Thai movie, not the 2024 English remake (that I haven't watched.)
A straightforward movie about a group of high school students cheating in an international exam.
Despite its simplicity, the movie showed many underlying problems in Asian education systems.

A. N. Scriabin, Vilno, 1913.

Happy 153rd birthday to one of the greatest pianist-composers ever, Alexander Scriabin.
January 6, 2025 at 12:42 PM
Alexander Scriabin's Piano Sonata No. 6 has an unplayable note, simply because the note is not available on standard 88-key pianos (the note in question is D8 while a common keyboard ranges from A0 to C8)

I don't keep track of the books I have read or the films I have watched, mainly because I think it should not be forced to me. They should be treated as hobbies, not duties.
However, I probably should have something like a list of books to read in 2025, idk.
(slightly unrelating meme)

Where's Waldo among the movies released in 2024?
December 29, 2024 at 1:13 AM
Randomly remembers of Koyaanisqatsi. Other than the cool poster, the movie itself has no plot, no commentary, no narrations, just time-lapsed scenes of human and nature, with the soundtrack composed by Philip Glass.
Though I hardly understand the entire movie, it's haunting, cryptically beautiful.
December 17, 2024 at 2:49 AM
Randomly thinks of Amadeus the 1984 movie and while many details are historically incorrect (after all it was based on a fictional play), the movie is amazing.
Oh well the poster goes hard too.

I wonder if Rachmaninoff was experiencing something from looking at this painting in 1907 because, wow, his symphonic poem of the same name was incredible.

Crazy how we are gonna have 3 huge competitions for piano in the next year, and two of them can be watched through livestreams on YouTube.
