The verb “plead” is a strange regular verb, but follows the same pattern as the verb “to lead”:
I/You plead; She/He/It pleads
I/You pleaded; She/He/It pleaded
I/You have pleaded
But there is the use of an alternative form of the past forms: “Pled”
“Pleading” is both the continuous form AND a noun.

In this “legal “ context, any bits of evidence that is tangible is a “document “. A spoken statement “becomes “ a “document “ when it’s transcribed or a recording is presented.
